For more than 40 years the Annual Juried Exhibition sponsored by the Associates of Brand Library has been one of the preeminent stages upon which artists—almost 2,000 of them—from around the country have exhibited their work. This monumental record is enhanced by the historically significant Southern California-based artists, educators and critics who have served as jurors during those 40 years.
With the exhibition Purchasing Power: Jurors Make Their Mark, the Brand Library Art Galleries honors Pacific Standard Time: Los Angeles Art, 1945-1980, the unprecedented collaboration of cultural institutions across Southern California coming together to celebrate the birth of the L.A. art scene.
Featuring 35 artworks from the Associates of Brand Library Purchase Award Collection from the period 1971-1980, the exhibition will highlight the legacy of the well-known jurors of that period, including Millard Sheets, Claire Falkenstein, Joe Mugnaini, Hans Burkhardt, Guy Maccoy, and Paul Brach.
