CHEVY CHASE LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS
The Chevy Chase Library Volunteers is a group committed to ensuring that the branch remain a vital, active, and relevant resource for the community. They produce valuable programming for the branch -- including bringing guest speakers, storytime and crafts projects, cultural events, arts and educational projects, social gatherings, and other community events.

Anyone interested in attending an event or becoming a member of the group may contact chevychaselibraryvolunteers@yahoo.com, or call the Branch at (818) 548-2046.

LOCATION
The branch is sited in a residential area on the west side of Chevy Chase Drive. A fire station shares the building and a parking lot is located in front of the building.

DIRECTIONS
From Pasadena: Take the 134 Freeway west and exit right at Harvey. Proceed on Harvey, passing the street light at Holly and the stop at Glenoaks Blvd. Where Harvey dead ends at Chevy Chase Drive, make a right and proceed two miles up Chevy Chase Drive. Pass the Chevy Chase Country Club on your left and make a left in the branch parking lot. An alternate route from Pasadena is by way of Linda Vista, which connects to Chevy Chase Drive.

From the west: Take the 134 Freeway east and exit left on Harvey. Follow the directions above.

HISTORY
After being served from 1963 to 1972 by the Bookmobile, Chevy Chase Canyon received its own branch library on May 24, 1972. The branch survived some tumultuous times, including being closed after Proposition 13. For the past several years, the branch has been open two days per week.

NEIGHBORHOOD PROFILE
The Chevy Chase Branch is sited in a hilly area surrounded by upscale single family residences. It is a neighborhood defined by its geography and by the fact that the only entrance to and exit from Glendale is Chevy Chase Drive. The service area of the branch extends east to Pasadena (where Linda Vista leads to Chevy Chase Drive), northeast to La Canada Flintridge, south to Eagle Rock and west to where Chevy Chase Drive begins its ascent up into Chevy Chase Canyon. With the exception of the library, a fire station, a country club and golf course and a mini mart, everything else in the neighborhood is residential housing. At the entrance of Chevy Chase Drive there are small businesses, two churches, a major hospital and apartment houses. There is no public transportation and very few pedestrians, except for those who use the steep road as an exercise route.

COMPUTER CATALOG
Chevy Chase is a branch of Library, Arts & Culture Department system. Its Computer Catalog, which shows the collection of both the Glendale and the Pasadena libraries, is through the G.L.E.N. (Glendale Library Electronic Network).

EQUIPMENT
The branch has a photocopying machine that charges $.10 per page. Typewriters and word processors are not available.
